Dinner and Divinity - December 4th - The True Condition of Humanity

A lovely night - lots of music and singing (Mike and Hayden were rocking some Matisyahu covers). For our discussion, we watched an amazing powerpoint called "The True Condition of Humanity."

Here are some photos from the evening.

Dinner and Divinity - November 6th - "Truthfulness: In All Things, At All Times"

A lovely evening as always. Lots of art and artistic discussion. Poetry was shared. Stories told. Doodles done. Our dinner was truly delicious. We had Swedish meatballs, breaded eggplant, veggies and mashed potatoes.

As the title says, our theme was all about Truthfulness. For the divinity portion, we discussed and shared quotes from many of worlds spiritual traditions on being truthful. We learned that dishonesty "physically" harms the body (think about how you feel when you lie...) and that without truthfulness, no other virtue is attainable. Can you be loving without truthfulness? Can you be patient? Can you be noble? Can you be selfless? etc. etc. The quote this concept comes from is:

"Truthfulness is the foundation of all human virtues." It's from the Baha'i Writings. Extending this concept into our daily lives, we set 3 to 5 goals for how we can be more truthful. Based on this quote and idea, how can you expand your foundation of truthfulness?

Here are some photos from the night. See you next time!

Dinner and Divinity - October 23rd - The Holy Land

After taking a week off while Tanja was in Israel, we resumned our bi-weekly "D & D." With Tanja fresh from the Holy Land, the gathering was extra special, for as the saying goes, "Blessed is the visitor of the visitor of Akka." I slaved over the stove and made two homemade soups for the evening: pumpkin corn chowder and escarole potato lentil. They hit the spot just right on that chilly Fall night! Later in the night, we read some writings from various Faiths and had drums, guitar, piano and lots of singing. Here are some photos from the night:

Dinner and Divinity - September 18th - Interfaith Prayer

Last week we had our First "D & D" of the new school year. It proved to be a wonderful night, as it always is. After a delicious dinner of lasagna, salad and garlic bread, we played some music, sang together and read some prayers and quotations from various world faiths. We also had special prayers for those in need of healing and for loved ones who have passed on. Dessert was delicious - cheesecake and brownies, coffee and tea. Here are some photos from the night:

"When a man turns his face to God, he finds sunshine everywhere. All men are his brothers."

What is "Dinner and Divinity"?

Dinner and Divinity ("D & D" for short) is an ongoing gathering of friends and neighbors filled with music, art, spirituality, dinner and dessert. We (Tanja and Bryan) have these gatherings at our apartment here in Montclair, New Jersey. We plan to have D & D every other Friday, as consistently as we can. All are welcome, so feel free to bring a friend!

If you have any questions about D & D, feel free to give me a call at 609-752-1718 or send me an email at bryanweber9@gmail.com
